Tooth Extraction in Albuquerque
Tooth loss and decay can be caused for any number of reasons. Sometimes, a cavity has infected parts of your tooth and has caused too much damage to repair with a filling or crown. Occasionally, tooth loss or infection can be caused by other underlying health reasons that may not be readily apparent. Regular cleanings and checkups at our family dentistry practice can help you avoid decay and tooth loss.
Types of Tooth Extraction
Usually, tooth decay can be stopped with treatment such as a filling, crown, or root canal therapy. Our family dentists at Davis Gribble Hollowwa Dental will use every method available to determine whether or not you need a treatment like tooth extraction. We’ll use our intra-oral cameras, digital x-ray machines and your health history reports to decide on the best course of action.
There are two types of tooth extractions:
- Simple. These extractions include any tooth that has broken through the surface of your gums. You’ll be numbed during the process and may be prescribed antibiotics after the procedure is finished.
- Surgical. These extractions include teeth broken at the gum line and ones that are still beneath the surface, like wisdom teeth.
When tooth extraction is necessary, we’ll make sure you understand all your options, including dental implants, fixed bridges or removable prosthetics before your tooth is extracted. Your safety and comfort is most important to us during the entire procedure.
